A bit of emoji in my prompt was a definite improvement, but I wanted emoji in more places. Github, Slack, and many other places make it easy by translating names, like :icecream: to šŸ¦. That’s pretty neat, so why not just do that in your shell?

$ echo $E_ICECREAM

$ do-something && echo $E_THUMBSUP || echo $E_THUMBSDOWN

$ git commit -a -m "Fix race condition $E_TADA"
[master 687c204] Fix race condition šŸŽ‰
